What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a system of medicine that uses very thin, sterile needles to access the body's ability to heal itself and to enhance good health. The needles are inserted in specific points on the body that are chosen in response to the desired effect the acupuncturist wishes to accomplish. The needles are left in place for 15 to 40 minutes while the patients rests. The patient usually has a feeling of wellbeing while receiving their treatment.
In addition to acupuncture a patient will also discuss their diet and possible nutritional changes.  Herbal medicine may be recommended as Dr Dagorret has a background in Chinese herbal medicine and an extensive background in western herbs.
The benefits of acupuncture are cumulative, so usually more than one treatment is necessary. For acute conditions you can expect to have 4 to 12 treatments, but you will usually begin to feel relief after just the first few. Chronic conditions may take longer to respond, depending on the type, severity, and duration of the condition. Each patient responds differently so we cannot predict how many treatments a patient will need. Preventative treatments and treatments for general well-being may also be scheduled on an as-needed basis.  Many patients enjoy monthly wellness care where they can discuss any new or old condition to help them stay as healthy as possible.

Exercise and movement play an important part of getting well and staying well.  Dr Dagorret can help guide a patient though suggestions or referrals to reach the goal of a healthy lifestyle.
